This was the birthmom who was meant for us. We were supposed to meet.

We wanted to take back control of our family story by pursuing adoption.

The most surreal moment was when it was just the three of us.

In that mix of emotions was the absolute love we had for his birthmother and the brave decision she was considering.

Now that we had met an amazing young woman who loved our daughter as much as we did, we could not deny her, us, or Keagan anything but an open adoption.

As we exchanged gifts, it was clear how much we both deeply cared for not only each other but the baby between us.
We were very honored and blessed to be chosen by our daughter’s birthmom.

Everything fell into place as if it were always supposed to be this way.

It is a strange feeling to know there is another parent out there for your child but how special and awesome to know how loved Mya is by her birthmother.

It is not a race and can take time. We had to remind ourselves to slow down and relax, which was hard to do at the time.

As soon as he was placed in my arms, I knew he was meant for me.

What is meant to be will be.

We hope that as he grows older, this will bring him peace, knowledge, and closure knowing that his birthmother loved him through her very last days.

I cannot imagine my life without Lincoln, and I thank God every day for his selfless birthparents.

When she smiled at me, it was like she knew me.

Allow your heart to open and fall in love with your baby before they arrive.

We knew how important the expectant mother relationship was, and we tried to put our best foot forward each time and not carry with us the hurt from the last disruption, which wasn’t always easy.

The waiting was hard, but it was worth it.

Adoption is a process so close to our hearts and our families. We could not imagine having children any other way.

We never lost faith that we would become parents, and we thank God every day for bringing Merritt into our lives.

We could finally breathe again. The weight on our shoulders dissipated. He was ours.

We followed her lead and let her have whatever she wanted.

As much as he was our son, he was their son too. At that moment, the four of us joined as parents to this one beautiful child.

That second when you hold your baby it is worth every single downward spiral we went through.

There will be ups and downs, but in the end, it is all worth it. Remember to just be yourself.

We are in awe of any woman that chooses adoption. These women definitely earn their wings!

What other choice is there except to go all in.

Adoption taught us how to have grace for ourselves, for the birthmother, for her journey, and for our story together.

We are grateful for the tough decision her birthmother made and for her choosing and trusting us to raise Flannery.

We kept fighting every roadblock that came our way, knowing this was going to happen. Believe in it, have faith, be patient, and know that it is all worth it.
