When faced with choosing adoption in difficult circumstances, it's important to remember that as an expectant mother, you have options. Below, you'll find answers and guidance on a range of different situations expectant mothers may be facing, including incarceration, adoption without U.S. citizenship, addiction, homelessness, and more. At Angel Adoption, it's our goal to help you get the information, resources, and support you need to make an informed decision.
Can I make an adoption plan in prison?
If you are an expectant mother in prison, you can still go through the same adoption process as any other woman, and we can certainly help. Speak with your prison caseworker about your options.
If you choose to move forward with an adoption plan in prison, we can help you regardless of how far along you are in your pregnancy. Our experienced coordinators can send adoptive family profiles for you to start looking through, or we can choose one of our loving families for you.
Depending on your prison's rules, we may be able to help you get into contact with the family via letters or phone calls. If you're unable to communicate with them directly, that's okay. We will connect you with an experienced legal professional who will follow the regulations of where you are incarcerated to help you get your adoption plan into place and communicate with the family. The legal professional can connect you with counseling as well to help you process your emotions.
If you're considering an adoption plan while in prison, you may be wondering if your sentence will be extended or if there are any other legal consequences that would happen as a result of choosing adoption. The answer is no. It is safe for expectant mothers in prison to choose adoption as an option.
Can I place my baby for adoption if I am not a U.S. Citizen?
If you are looking into adoption and are not a U.S citizen, we can still help you. As long as your child will be born in the United States, you have just as much of a right to make an adoption plan as any other expectant mother. You have the option of placing your child with a loving and supportive American family, and through our services, you can choose the adoptive family that is best for you.
We have waiting families of all backgrounds, and your citizenship will not affect the number of families willing to adopt your unborn child, and you can still choose the type of post-placement communication you would like. We work with experienced legal professionals that can work with you on your adoption plan and keep you safe and secure in the process.

Request Free InformationCan I make an adoption plan if Child Protective Services or the Department of Family Services is involved?
If you're currently pregnant and CPS or DFS has an open case involving your children or they have custody of your child(ren), you CAN make an adoption plan for your unborn child. With a voluntary adoption plan, you can gain some control over the situation. Making an adoption plan in this instance allows you to choose the adoptive family and the type of post-placement communication that you want.
Whether you make an adoption plan before or after you give birth, you always have the right to make those choices yourself. It's important to notify your caseworker and the hospital staff that you have an adoption plan for your baby. If CPS/DFS is called after your baby is born, inform them of your wishes to make a voluntary adoption plan, and call or text us at 815-307-5837 immediately.
We work with highly experienced legal professionals across the United States who can work with you and your caseworker to make your adoption plan successful. It may not be possible to make an adoption plan once CPS/DFS opens a case or takes legal custody of your baby, so it's very important to start making an adoption plan and contact us as soon as possible, even if you're still unsure about your final decision.
