Frequently Asked Questions about Adoption in Michigan
How do I put my baby up for adoption in Michigan?
The first step is contacting an adoption organization or agency in Michigan. You can view profiles of families hoping to adopt and choose one for your baby. Then you’ll put together an adoption plan based on your wants and needs, such as whether it will be open or closed, and what you’ll do after the adoption.
If you’d prefer not to look through the family profiles, our adoption coordinators can look for you. Give them as much or as little information as you want for the life you envision for your baby. We meet you at your comfort level.
Or, if you want to meet the adoptive parents over the phone, via video call, text, or in person, we can help coordinate that with the family. You have enough on your plate without worrying about traveling!
How are adoptive families screened while thinking about giving my baby up for adoption?
Every adopting parent working with Angel Adoption has been thoroughly evaluated through a home study course conducted by a licensed provider. The home study process includes assessments of the parents’ character, marital stability, financial situation, lifestyle, and medical history.
The agency also runs background checks to verify there is no record of criminal activity or child abuse. In addition, a social worker will inspect the family’s home to ensure it is a safe and loving environment for a child.
Furthermore, Angel Adoption requires each family to be educated on adopting and parenting. After a baby has been placed with the adoptive family, a social worker will continue to monitor and supervise the family.
What are the types of adoption I can choose from when giving my baby up for adoption?
Open adoption is the most common type of adoption in the United States. In an open or semi-open adoption, you can choose the adoptive family and decide on the amount and type of contact during and after the adoption. In a closed adoption, you and the adoptive parents remain anonymous for the entire process.
What if I am in labor or in the hospital and haven’t made a plan yet?
It’s not too late. If you’ve decided to put your baby up for adoption, we are here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We can have an adoptive family available for your baby within hours. The adoptive parents may take the baby home with them from the hospital, avoiding any need for foster care.
What’s the next step in giving my baby up for adoption?
If you’re facing an unplanned pregnancy and considering adoption, we can help. From your first phone call or email to the birth of your baby and beyond, we’ll be here to provide you with friendly, non-judgmental guidance and compassionate support through the entire adoption process.
We encourage you to reach out to us however you’re most comfortable. Call us at 1-888-378-1112, text us at 815-307-5837, or email us at info@angeladoptioninc.com. We’re always available: Whatever is going on, you come first.
