My Birthmother Story
Kelly

My name is Kelly, and adopting my child out was the best decision I’ve ever made.
Hello! Let me tell you my story…
I decided to adopt my son out after thinking carefully. I was still reviving mentally from being abused by my ex-husband, I didn’t have a job, I already had three kids as a single mother, and I wasn’t ready to raise another child. The father didn’t want anything to do with the child, so I knew that once I started this journey, it would have to be a sure thing. I couldn’t get someone’s hopes up to just change my mind at the end.
Once my children and I decided that adoption was the best option for us, we went through Angel Adoption. Angel Adoption explained how things went, constantly reassuring me that every decision was mine alone to make. That meant a lot. Knowing that I would get to choose who would raise my son, what type of adoption I wanted to have, the birth plan, etc. Angel Adoption didn’t judge me for being inadequate in wanting to adopt my children out. They made me feel special by telling me what I was doing was a great thing, and they were right.
The only concern I ever had was what would I eat before the delivery. 🤣
Angel Adoption, my attorney that was provided through the parents… they all made everything so easy and clear. If I had a question, it was answered and explained. It wasn’t a “read the brochure” type of help. It was more of a PowerPoint thing with spreadsheets. Any and every detail was given.
What I looked for in an adoptive family was simple. Happiness, adventure, and more importantly, love. Those were the three things I wanted for my son, so that’s what I looked for in a family. That’s what I found and more!
I was blessed. I found the perfect couple for my son. They supported me from the very first text message sent to the very end. They communicated everything, made sure I had everything, made a trip just to meet me, asked about my other kids, bought them gifts, and shared their struggle with infertility also while listening to mine. They wanted to incorporate the name I had picked into his name. They asked if it was okay, and it made me feel like they understood a parent’s wants even though they weren’t yet a parent. I’m a little stubborn. I chose the family and said if they didn’t want my child, nobody could have him. I wanted nobody but them. 🤣
The type of adoption I chose wasn’t my decision. I felt like by choosing someone else to raise my son, they should be able to decide what kind of contact they wanted with my children and me. They chose open adoption after letting them know that’s how I felt. I let all the decisions be that way (now, this was my personal choice).
Before and after the birth, my thoughts and emotions were just this… I’m so blessed that I get to be the one to give this beautiful couple a family. The parents… The parents were the biggest indicator that I chose the right ones. I, as a mother, had to feel that this is the couple that I wanted to raise my child.
Looking forward, I can only hope that our son will realize I did everything for him. That I broke my heart to make sure his was complete. That I spent many days and nights finding the perfect family for him so that he could grow up in a world differently than mine.
If you’re looking to adopt—don’t think about how it’ll make you appear in other people’s lives. Because honestly, who cares what other people think? 😌 Make sure it’s what you really want. Nothing breaks an adoptive family’s hearts more than giving them something they always wanted, but taking it back. This isn’t a toy exchange. So please be sure. Know that you have the power in deciding what you want and need. That if you have questions… ask them. That you have support. We are your support!! That at the end of the day, you will be the only one raising this child, so everyone else’s opinions are just that. This is a huge step and sacrifice, but giving someone the opportunity to become a parent has been the most amazing experience and decision I’ve ever made.
