Frequently Asked Questions

{slide=Can I pick the adoptive family? Can I meet them?}

Angel Adoption will help you create an adoption plan that fits your specific needs. There is no right or wrong way. It’s up to you to decide how much contact you want with the adoptive parents and your child — before and after birth.

{/slide} {slide=Can I receive financial assistance?}

Yes, if you are in need of financial assistance to pay for pregnancy-related expenses. In most cases, this includes assistance with rent, food, transportation, clothes, medical and legal costs. However, we strongly recommend that financial assistance not be the primary reason for placing your child up for adoption.

{/slide} {slide=Are there any costs to me?}

There is no cost to you as a birthmother. Adoptive parents pay for legal fees, reasonable pregnancy-related expenses and medical bills that are not covered by insurance or public aid.

{/slide} {slide=What is open or semi-open adoption?}

In an open adoption, the birthmother may choose the adoptive family rather than having an agency choose one for her. We provide a large selection of loving families that are just waiting to adopt. Birthmothers may decide on the amount of contact they wish to have. Some birthmothers want letters and photos; others may want visits and/or phone calls. The choice is totally up to you, the birthmother, on what meets your needs.

{/slide} {slide=Why choose adoption?}

Birthmothers come to us for many reasons. She may be unable to financially support her child. She may be at a place in her life where she is not emotionally ready to care for a new baby. No matter what her reason, she is making the decision because she wants what is best for her child. We understand the difficult choices she must make and we are here to support her.

A single mother may want her baby to have two stable parents, a couple may feel they don't have the financial resources to raise a child or more children. Others need to complete their education or are in the midst of relationship difficulties. Adoption is a loving decision. It takes a great deal of love and sacrifice to even consider it. We want to help you explore parenting and adoption and let you determine what is right for both you and your child at this time n your life.

{/slide} {slide=How are adoptive families screened?}

Every adoptive parent is thoroughly evaluated through an Adoptive Home Study process conducted by a Licensed Agency. The Home Study process includes assessments of their character, marital stability, financial situation, lifestyle, and medical history. They will run background checks to verify there is no record of criminal activity or child abuse. Their home will also be inspected by a social worker to ensure it is a safe environment for a child. We require education on adopting and parenting. Following the placement of a child into an adoptive home, the social worker will continue to monitor and supervise the family. We go to great lengths to make sure the families we offer you are going to be excellent parents to your child.

{/slide} {slide=Can I be involved in choosing the family for my baby?}

Yes! We would encourage you to choose your adoptive family from the pool of families that Adoption Links Worldwide has approved. We will assist you in the initial contact with them. If you want to, you can spend time with them on your own to get to know them better. Many birht parents meet for dinner, go to obstetrical appointments together, talk on the telephone and/or write to each other. You decide how open or private you want your relationship to be.

{/slide} {slide=When are adoption coordinators available?}

Angel Adoption staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 877-264-3555.

{/slide} {slide=Can my baby go directly to the adoptive parents from the hospital?}

Yes, if that’s what you and the adoptive parents decide.

{/slide} {slide=What kinds of counseling services are available before and after placement?}

Angel Adoption will provide you with independent counseling at any point in the adoption process. You can see a counselor when you are ready. These costs will be covered for by the adoptive parents. Your conversations with the independent counselors are confidential.
